CL girls track team not at full strength for NCC Meet
Coach Shawn Puttmann said his team was not at full strength at the North Central Conference meet held on Monday, May 11, in Fort Dodge and it showed in the final standings. The team was without leading sprinter McKenna Backhaus, who was out with an injury. Typically the Lions have topped at least three of the NCC teams which finished ahead of them May 11. At Fort Dodge, they were only able to score 43 points and finished last in the eight-team field.
Freshman Lexi Jones was a bright spot for the Lions, capturing a title in the long jump and runner-up in the high jump. Jones jumped 16’2.5” to win the long jump and cleared 4’10” in the high jump.
Place winning events for the Lions included: Talie Tesar, fourth in the 400 hurdles in a time of 1:13.81 and was eighth in the 100 hurdles in 17.88; Molly Dugan, fifth in the long jump at 14’ and Emilie Jandebeur finishing fifth in the 800 meters in 2:46.42.
The 4x100 shuttle hurdle team was sixth in 1:19.88. Relay members were Joslyn Gannon, Kayla Ritter, Michaela Niles and Tesar. The 4x200 with Dugan, Jones, Aspen Curtis and Megan Merfeld finished fifth in 1:59.27.The 4x100 relay with Curtis, Jones, Emilie Jandebeur and Merfeld was fifth in 56.79.
