Bieber wins the long jump at home meet

A first place finish in the long jump highlighted the Clear Lake girls’ performance at the Jim Ahrens Relays held Thursday, May 8, in Clear Lake. Bieber jumped 13’ 8” to win the event.

Clear Lake’s 4x200 relay of Shelby Dickes, Bieber, Mckenna Backhaus and Megan Merfeld were looking like they would run their best time and win the race, but failed to make the last exchange.  

 The last four races of the event were cancelled due to weather. St. Ansgar won the team title with 118 points, followed by West Fork with 103 and Forest City with 101. Lake Mills was fourth with 100 points, Hampton-Dumont finished with 53, Belmond-Klemme had 42 and Clear Lake was seventh in the standings with 37 points.
Other top placements for the Lions included Selena Borrill, third in long jump with a jump of 12’ 4”; Megan Merfeld placed third in the 200 and Kirsten Reineke was 13th. Their times were 29.59 and 32.97 respectively. Mckenna Backhaus finished fourth in the 100 in 14.36 and Shelby Dickes fifth in the 100 in 14.69.
Aspen Curtis was 10th in 100 hurdles in a time of 20.86 and fifth in the 400 hurdles in 1:22.20. Katie Adams also had a pair of placements in the hurdles. She was 12th in 100 hurdles in 22.80 and seventh in the 400 hurdles in 1:35.17.
