Girls tennis team puts in a big week on the court

The Clear Lake girls tennis team is heading into the home stretch of the season with a flurry of meets. The Lions traveled to Iowa Falls and Charles City last week and took part in a weekend tournament in Waverly. Clear Lake’s dual record now stands at 6-2.

CL 7, IF-A 2
 For the second time this season, the Lions topped Iowa Falls-Alden, 7-2. Highlights of the match included Clear Lake’s top player, Alexis Atkinson, avenging a 9-11 loss with a 10-6 victory. Kylie Bottjen, Courtney Anderson and Kirsten Jordan also earned wins and all three Lions doubles teams won.

Junior varsity
Reagan Brackey/ Kiersten Baalson won 3-2
Miranda Mundt/Jaci Ullrich 5-0

Charles City 5, CL 4
On Tuesday, May 6, the Lions were at Charles City. Clear Lake was up 4-2 heading into doubles play, but the Comets swept doubles for a 5-4 victory. Coach Mary Jo Peterson said Lindsay Loudenburg played consistently and patiently. “The best I’ve seen Lindsey play singles this year.” Kylie Bottjen also adjusted well to her opponent and won, 10-6, as did Kirsten Jordan, 10-2. Courtney Anderson also provided a victory, refusing to give up
