Regular season closes for G-H/V girls

 

The G-H/V softball team finished the regular season with a pair of losses to North Iowa teams.  They closed the regular season with a 1-27 mark and were slated to begin post-season play Tuesday at Forest City against the Indians.

 

WEST HANCOCK 10, GHV 3

The Cardinals kept scrapping, but West Hancock held on for a 10-3 victory Monday, July 1.

The Eagles opened with a first inning run, then added six more in the third for a quick 7-0 lead.  However the Cardinals put one run on the board in the bottom of the third, then scratched out runs on the sixth and seventh for the final.

The Cards had 10 hits in the game, paced by Tiara Van Gerpen and MacKenzie Van Gerpen each with two.  Maddie Tusha, Mallory Van Oort, Payton Bamrick, Grace Tusha, Brooklyn Ossman and Miranda Jackson had one hit apiece.

Taylor Reising was tagged with the loss.  She threw four nines, striking out one and walking five.  Ossman pitched the final three innings, striking out two.

FOREST CITY 8, G-H/V 2

Five Cardinal errors gave Forest City a leg up in an 8-2 game Tuesday, July 2.  

The Indians jumped on starting pitcher Brooklyn Ossman early, scoring three in the first and five more in the second. Ossman gave up seven hits and eight runs in one and two-thirds innings.  Taylor Reising stepped in an did a good job shutting down Forest City.  She struck out one and walked two.

The Cardinals could only get four hits off Indian pitcher Autumn Busta.  Maddie Tusha, Tiara Van Gerpen, Mackenzie Van Gerpen and Reising reached base.
