Bank account established to accept donations for life rings
The assignment may be complete, but Lainey Arians isn’t quite ready to close the book on her idea to make a difference in her community.
Arians and two classmates at Clear Lake Middle School were featured in a Mirror-Reporter issue last month discussing their idea to place life
rings at the end of public docks. The project was in response to a school assignment entitled “Making a Difference in North Iowa.”
While vacationing in Michigan, Arians said she had seen life rings placed at the end of public docks. With the memory of the drowning of a Clear Lake teen still fresh in her mind, Arians thought the life ring idea should be used here. She made a presentation to members of the Clear Lake City Council, which endorsed the idea and encouraged her to make contact with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources which oversees the lake. Recently, the idea was also approved by representatives of the DNR.
Arians has now established a fund at Manufacturer’s Bank & Trust in Clear Lake to accept donations. The goal is to raise $2,000 for life rings to be placed at six locations.
