Lions top Algona in NCC battle

In a game filled with a little bit of everything-- including a crowd-pleasing trick shot which happened by accident, the Lions evened their record in the North Central Conference with a 58-50 win over Algona Tuesday, Jan. 17.
    The Lions were back on their home floor after a five-game stretch away during which they dropped four games.  They opened the game playing evenly with the Bulldogs.

  Clear Lake held a 21-20 advantage after one quarter, but was able to open it up a bit in the second and third quarters.  They outscored the visitors 18-9 in the second for a 39-29 halftime lead, which they maintained through the third, 49-39.
    “Algona kept sticking around and made a run on us late, but I thought the kids handled things well and responded when they needed to,” said Lions Coach Kevin Kahler.  “I thought we played well defensively and we were able to knock down some important free throws late in the game when we needed to.”
    The Bulldogs  trimmed the margin down to a four point game with under two minutes to go, but the Lions withstood the threat.
