James Bird

    James L. Bird, age 71, of Mason City, Iowa passed away Thursday, Dec. 15, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City.   Jim requested there be no funeral and was cremated.  There will be a family and friends gathering Friday, Dec. 23, from 4-7 p.m. at the home of Mick Baker, 1433 Birch Drive, Mason City.

    James LeRoy “Jim” Bird was born March 13, 1940 in Sheffield, Iowa to Alfred and Helen (Miller) Bird.  Jim graduated in 1958 from Nora Springs High School.
    Jim was a bricklayer in the Mason City area and was considered by some to be one of the finest.  Many buildings and homes in Mason City and surrounding areas have the special touch of his expertise in fireplaces and brick fronts.
    Jim was an avid Vikings, Twins and Hawkeye fan and for years made sure he attended at least one game each year. He also enjoyed fishing in Canada with life-long friends and golfing with his foursome every Sunday. Jim also enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids.
    Jim is survived by his wife of 47 years, Karen; two sons, Rick (Tammy) Bird, Mike (Judy) Bird, and a daughter, Sue Kral and special friend, Greg Bradbury; six grandchildren, Chelsie (Cole), Mandie (Dave), Jacob (Britany), Nathan (Courtney), William and Shelby; three great-grandchildren, Carter, Amelia and Colton; a sister, Linda Anderson; brother, Bob (Connie) Bird; brother-in-law, Mick Baker; sister-in-law, Cathie Baker; nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Joey Lee and R. David Bird; sister-in-law, Sally Baker; brothers-in-law, Bob Anderson and Don Baker.
