Lions bounce back after string of losses

    The road was rough for the Lions last week, as they dropped a close contest to Algona Garrigan.  At home on Friday the team bounced back from three straight losses and posted a 75-54 win over Clarion-

Goldfield.  The Lions, who are now 2-3 hosted Hampton-Dumont Tuesday, Dec. 20, for their final game before the holiday break.  They resume play Tuesday, Jan. 3, on the road again at Webster City.
Garrigan  64, CL 61
    The Lions were ahead 33-25 at halftime, but saw their lead slip away in the final quarter.  Garrigan came from behind for a 64-61 victory.
    “We played a good first half, but I thought we missed some opportunities to expand our lead,” said Coach Kevin Kahler.  “We had some turnovers and missed some make-able shots.”
    Garrigan connected on a couple of three-point shots with about six-minutes remaining in the third quarter to begin to shift momentum in the game.  The Lions were still ahead, 52-47, after three quarters but the final frame went to the home team. 
    “The fourth quarter was tight all the way through.  It was another good learning experience for our kids though.  Obviously, you hate to lose, but you can take a lot away from playing in a tight game on the road.  I think this game will make us better in the long run,” added Coach Kahler.
    Ozzie Adams and Spencer Davidson both finished in double figures for the Lions with 14 and 12 points respectively.  Tanner Tusha and Bryson Hamilton each scored nine, while Jack Abbas had seven points and Chase Crosby scored six.  Gavin Sheakley added four points. 
    Crosby was the leader on the boards for the Lions with eight rebounds.  Hamilton had six rebounds. 
    The Lions recorded eight steals in the game, led by Adams with four.

    The Lions got a much-needed win Friday, as they roared past Clarion-Goldfield, 75-54.
    “I think our transition offense was the key tonight.  The kids did a nice job of getting the ball up the floor and attacking the rim,” said Coach Kahler.    “I thought we took good shots and were aggressive offensively.”
    The Lion offense had several weapons.  Scoring leaders included Ozzie Adams with 15, Spencer Davidson with 12, Tanner Tusha with 11 and Chase Crosby’s 10.  Crosby led the team in rebounds with eight.
    Bryson Hamilton scored seven points to go with his seven rebounds.  Pete Swenson also had seven boards and scored six.
