Gerald Dingman
Gerald “Jerry” Jesse Dingman, 77, 1403 S. Lakeview Dr., Clear Lake, died Thursday, May 29, 2014 at his home.
A gathering of family and friends was held on Sunday, June 1, 2014 at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel. A prayer service was first with Rev. Dean Hess officiating, followed by a Masonic service. An inurnment will be at Highland Memorial Garden, Des Moines, Iowa, at a later date. According to his wishes, his body has been cremated. Memorials may be given to the Shriners
Hospital for Children.
Jerry was born in Des Moines, the son of James Frankland and Velma Bessie (Byers) Dingman. He graduated from Des Moines Tech High School in 1955. Jerry married his high school sweetheart, Jeanne Gildow, July 5, 1955 in Adel, Iowa. He worked for Firestone for more than 25 years as a supervisor. He then went to work for the Des Moines Public Schools in the transportation department.
He enjoyed spending summers and weekends at Clear Lake. After he retired he built their dream home on the lake. Jerry’s appreciation of antique boats led him to become involved with wood boats and was founder of the Clear Lake Antique Wooden Boat Show. He recently received his 50 year certification from Pioneer Masonic Lodge #22, AF & AM, Des Moines.
Jerry was an avid NASCAR fan and attended the Daytona 500 for 33 years with family and friends. He also was very active with racing and Team Dingman Motorsports. He enjoyed motorcycling with his boys. He will be remembered as a devoted, loving family man and friend and role model to many.
Jerry is survived by his wife of almost 59 years, Jeanne Dingman; four children, Steve (Beccy) Dingman, West Des Moines, Iowa, Bob (Carrie) Dingman, Urbandale, Iowa, Anne (Jim) Lundquist, St. Paul, Minn., and Donnie (Michelle) Dingman, Grimes, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Christina (Aaron) Powell, Emily Dingman, Stefanie (Quinton) Hand, Ashley (Jason) Robey, Larry Bertram, Jeanne (Scott) Hansen, Eddie Lundquist, Andrea (Ryan) Giles and Dalton Dingman; six great-grandchildren, Tiffany Marie Pierce, Annemarie Hansen, Bennett Hansen, Graham Hansen, Hazel Grace Hansen and Jackson Giles; brothers, Donald (Claudia) Dingman, Mannford, Okla., David (Angie) Dingman, Springfield, Mo., sister, Virginia Lester, Stratford, Conn.; and brother, Martin (Gay) Dingman, Branson, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents and infant brother.
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
