Cruising Clear Lake
New owners hope to enhance unique lake experience
The Lady of the Lake is sailing under new ownership this season.
Jon Berhow and Scott and Niki Monson have purchased the sternwheeler from Mike Royer and Rodger Nordman. However, Royer and Nordman have agreed to stay on this season to handle driving and tour duties aboard the boat.
Berhow said he noticed a for sale sign on the boat last year and “knew he wanted to make it happen.”
The boat’s owners and Berhow had known each other for years. In addition, Berhow’s friend, Scott Monson had served as a driver for the boat for eight years and Niki had tended its bar.
It was a perfect match for the sellers and buyers, they said.
“The bank was supportive of our partnership and they wanted to see things stay local,” said Berhow. “They also liked our ideas to continue to make the Lady of the Lake a fun part of Clear Lake.”
Berhow, who also owns The Anchor Inn and Elly’s Lakefront Tap in Clear Lake, brings experience and knowledge of the restaurant and bar business to the Lady. The Monsons have valuable experience crewing the boat and Scott is familiar with its mechanics.
The new owners plan to introduce some new ideas which will give even more people a chance to experience the Lady of the Lake.
This summer, the boat will remain docked on Wednesdays, allowing everyone the opportunity to step on board and enjoy the view from 5-10 p.m. Visitors will be allowed to bring food on board.
At least once a month, the new owners plan to have a live band perform on board on Wednesday nights.
The cruise schedule and prices will remain the same. Information is available at www.cruiseclearlake.com or by calling 357-2243. The Lady of the Lake also has a Facebook page, with postings of special cruises, entertainment and more.
Royer and Nordman say they will miss spending time on the lake and all the people they have met in the 10 years they have owned the Lady of the Lake, but they are happy the new owners - Read More Via e-Edition
