Clear Lake girls finding their game

After an 0-2 start on the season, the Clear Lake girls basketball team has found its game.  The Lions picked up a pair of North Central Conference wins last week to improve to 3-2 overall and 3-1 in the NCC.   They topped Iowa Falls-Alden, 60-58, then pummeled Humboldt, 64-27.

    Logan Anderson scored with under 10 seconds remaining to help the Clear Lake girls to a two-point victory over Iowa Falls-Alden Tuesday, Dec. 6. 
    Anderson, a sophomore, finished with a team-high 16 points. In addition to her late game heroic shot, she made a pair of three-pointers and connected on six of nine field goal attempts.
    “I thought our girls performed well down the stretch and kept fighting,” said first year Head Coach Bart Smith.  “They were able to capitalize on some things to get the win.  They all played well.”
    Clear Lake held a 12-8 lead after one quarter of platy, but the Cadets began to pull away in the second period, outscoring the Lions 20-12 for a 28-24 halftime lead.  The Lions topped the Cadets 18-16 in the third and 16-12 in the fourth period for the win.
    Also finishing in double figures for the Lions was Meg Monson with 15 points and Megan Loux with 10.  Coach Smith credited Monson with sparking the team in the second half with her seven points in the third quarter.  She also had five rebounds.  Loux managed to make four steals in the game.
    Kristin Hewett also had a good game for the Lions, scoring eight points and pulling down seven rebounds to lead the team. Kaitlyn Pitzen finished with seven points and Trudy Peterson and Madi Faber each had two points. 

CL 64, HUMBOLDT 27
    The Lions posted an impressive win on the road at Humboldt Friday night, Dec. 9.  The dominated the NCC foe, 64, 27.
    “This was a good road test, as it’s a long bus trip to Humboldt. The girls came out of the gate ready to play  I’ve been stressing all season to come out strong and set the tone,” said Coach Smith.
    Clear Lake had four players finish in double figures scoring, which the coach said is testament to their unselfish play.
    Junior Megan Loux was the top scorer with 14 points.  She also dished out a team-high five assists.  She was followed by Madi Faber with 12 points, Meg Monson with 11- Read More Via e-Edition
