CL girls pound Eagle Grove, 73-45
The Clear Lake girls came out focused and energized and pummeled Eagle Grove, 73-45, Friday, Jan. 13. The win put the Lions back on track, after dropping their previous two games. They are now 7-5 overall and currently sit in third place in the North Central Conference with a 7-3 mark.
“I was pleased with the effort and intensity tonight,” said Coach Bart Smith. “We had girls sacrificing themselves for the team. We took a lot of charges that looked like charges but didn’t get the calls. We need to continue to fight and battle for each other. I was also pleased to see us win the rebounding war in the second half. We out rebounded them 18-4 in the second half.”
The coach highlighted the play of Hannah Bartlett, noting the 5’3” junior was successfully battling for rebounds against players who were 5’10” and 6’.
“She’s our spark plug,” said Smith. “Some of our girls need to follow her lead. If we can get everyone to play that way we will be tough at the end of the season.”
Bartlett finished the game with four rebounds, assists and steals, as well as six points.
The two teams opened the game evenly, with Clear Lake holding a 13-11 advantage after one quarter. The Lions outscored the Eagles 21-10 in the second quarter to lead 34-21 at the half. The Lions kept the pressure on in the third, outscoring their opponent 24-7 for an insurmountable lead.
Trudy Peterson and Meg Monson continue to play consistent ball for the Lions. Peterson led the way with 21 points, while Monson had 17. Peterson sunk four of seven shots from- Read More Via e-Edition
