Barbara Spalding

      Barbara R. (Knutson) Spalding, 73, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Sunday, March 9, 2014.  Memorial services will be held in June 2014 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.  Inurnment will be at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Lansing, Iowa. 

     Barbara was born April 23, 1940 in Waukon, Iowa, the daughter of Alex and Margaret (Kehr) Knutson.  She married Nyle A. Spalding on June 13, 1964 in Lansing.  Barbara was a teacher.  She 

graduated from Luther College with a degree in teaching and taught in Clear Lake, Ankeny and Cedar Rapids school systems.  She was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and Retired Teachers Association. She loved reading, gardening and spending time with her family. Surviving is her husband of 49 years, Nyle A. Spalding; her children, Amy (Michael) McCormick and their children, Kelton and Finnegan McCormick, all of Boulder, Colo., Sara A. (Daniel) Miller, and their children, Ava and Max Miller, all of Oswego, Ill.; sister, Helen (Norbert) Wurtzel of Eau Claire, Wisc.; sisters-in-laws, Maxyne (Bob) Gillice, of Arvanda, Colo., and Paulette (Arnie) Clare, of Lake City, Minn. 

She was preceded in death by her parents. 

     Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel, Cedar Rapids, is in charge of the arrangements.
