Clear Lake kept itself in the mix of the North Central Conference race with victories over Webster City and Hampton-Dumont. The Lions, now 8-3 in the NCC, will be at St. Ed’s (9-4) Friday. The Lions and Gaels are both chasing Humboldt and Iowa Falls-Alden, who are both at 10-2 in the league. The Lions are also home Thursday to take on Eagle Grove.

Pete Swenson was in the zone Tuesday, as the Lions hosted Webster City. The senior was seemingly everywhere, scoring 26 points and grabbing 16 rebounds. His effort helped to lift the Lions, 73-60.
“We played a good first half, but we weren’t able to put them away like we needed to,” said Coach Kevin Kahler.
The Lions held a 37-23 halftime lead, but the Lynx clawed their way back. With three minutes to go, the Lion lead was just four, but Clear Lake held off the charge and secured the win.
“I thought we executed extremely well during the last few minutes. We were 10 out of 11 from the free throw line during the fourth quarter alone, so we’re making them at critical times,” noted Coach Kahler.
Swenson was 4/4 at the charity stripe. Spencer Davidson was 3/4 on his way to scoring 15 points in the game. Gavin Sheakley was 2/2 at the line and finished with nine points, as did Bryson Hamilton. Chase Lester finished with eight points, Davis Dieken had four and Luke Schiller scored two.
CL 71, H-D 28
The Lions were clicking on all cylinders against Hampton-Dumont Friday. Clear Lake dominated in a 71-28 victory.
“It was one of those nights where we controlled both ends of the floor, and our transition game was good, too,” said Coach Kahler. “It was nice to get everybody on the roster into the game and get them some minutes. We have a busy week next week with three games, so this is a good way for us to go into the weekend and start getting ready for the week ahead.”
