The Ventura girls are hitting their stride at the right time of the season - heading into playoffs. The Lady Vikes topped Harris-Lake Park in their final regular season game and they beat Northwood-Kensett in the opening round of District action.
“I feel like we are getting better and better on the offensive end. We are taking care of the ball, finding the open man, and playing with a lot of poise and confidence,” said

Ventura 37, H-LP 22
Defense carried the Lady Vikes when they traveled to Harris-Lake Park to face the Wolverines on Tuesday, Feb. 7. Ventura held H-LP to 22 points, while they collected 37 in the final game of the regular season.
“We won this game with our defense, because most of our players struggled shooting the ball,” said Huber.
The Lady Vikes held a slight, 9-7, lead following the first quarter of play and by halftime had stretched it to 19-12. Ventura held the Wolverines scoreless in the third quarter, while they scored eight points. The fourth quarter saw matched play, with both teams scoring 10 points for the final, 37-22.
Shelby Rayhons had one of her best nights, with a double-double. Rayhons scored 15 points and collected 11 rebounds. She also had two steals and one blocked shot.
“Shelby really carried us on the offensive end tonight,” said Huber. “We now have multiple girls that can step up and carry the scoring burden when others are struggling.”
Emily Spilman, Emily Mathews and Morgan Ames all added six points apiece. Courtney Younge and Olivia Hackbarth had two points each.
Other rebounding leaders included Hallie Hall with seven, Ames grabbed five and Hackbarth had four rebounds.
Younge, Ames and Hall all led the team in steals with four apiece. Mathews had three steals.
Ventura 41, N-K 30
Ventura traveled to Northwood on Thursday, Feb. 9, and captured their first District win against Northwood-Kensett, 41-30.
“This game really could have been over much earlier than it was, but we started the game 1/10 from the free throw line,” said Coach Rod Huber.
