The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls golf team competed in two meets last week.
North Iowa Meet
On Friday, April 26, North Iowa hosted a meet and the Cards brought home top honors with a score of 217. Also competing were Lake Mills (241), North Iowa (245) and West Hancock (279).
Kyleigh Slaichert won medalist honors, carding a 48.
“I was extremely happy to see Kyleigh play well and get the medal. She’s been consistent in our three meets for a freshman and I’m hoping that she can continue to get better,” said Coach Todd Greiman.
Also competing for the Cardinals was Mariah Dillavou (56), Tamara O’Hara (56), Madee Hejna (57), Whitney Watson (57), and Kim Dornbier (63).
“I was a little disappointed with some of our scores considering the perfect weather conditions, but I guess the fact that we have practiced outside on a golf course twice over the last 10 days may have something to do with it,” said Greimann. “But I guess every team in the area has the same complaint.”
Bishop Garrigan Meet
It was a challenging day for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls golf team when they faced some tough competition in a tournament at the Spring Valley Golf Course on Saturday, April 27.
“We go to this tournament every year knowing that we’ll add some losses to our record, but the experience of playing 18 holes on a challenging course pays dividends down the road. This was our best score and best finish at this tournament in recent years,” said Coach Todd Greiman.
Bishop Garrigan won the meet with a team score of 364. Clear Lake was second with 373. Rounding out the team scores was Emmetsburg (417), Algona (420), G-H/V (449), Clarion-Goldfield (453), Estererville Lincoln Central (518) and Newman (535).
Mariah Dillavou led G-H/V carding a 106. Kyleigh Slaichert was only four strokes behind with a 110. Also playing was Whitney Watson 116, Tamara O’Hara 117, Kim Dornbier 119 and Madee Hejna 121.
