Ronald Smith


Ronald C. Smith, 63, of Clear Lake, Iowa, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.

Visitation was Thursday at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, and following the visitation he was cremated.   A memorial service was held on Friday, Jan. 11, 2013 at the Clear Lake United Methodist 

Church, Clear Lake, with Reverend Bernie Colorado officiating.  Inurnment will follow later at the Crystal Township Cemetery, Crystal Lake, Iowa. 

Ron was born July 1, 1949 in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Robert William and Eleanor Jean (Seibel) Smith. 

While growing up in Clear Lake he worked at the Jensen Grocery.  He graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1967 and then Mason City Junior College.  He married Joan M. Hansmeier Dec. 6, 1980 in Crystal Lake.

He worked at Winnebago, Curtis, Chemical Sanitizing Systems, Hwy 18 Amoco and then in 1996 opened his own business RCS Auto Repair/Napa Auto Center in Clear Lake.  Ron had always been interested in vehicles and tinkering on them and racing. He also liked Viking football, going to Sunday night races, watching Nascar and was a Dale Earnhardt fan. Ron loved his grandkids.

After he retired he worked at Habitat for Humanity Restore in Mason City.

He was a member of Clear Lake United Methodist Church and C.E.R.T. 

Ron is survived by his wife, Joan M. Smith, Clear Lake; two sons, Richard (Kim) Smith, Fertile, Iowa, and James Smith, Clear Lake; three grandchildren, Jacob and Jackson Smith and Cameron Lowry, Fertile, Iowa; two sisters, Connie Hatch, Baileys Harbor, Wis., and Barb (Rich) Cottrell, Rochester, Minn.; three brothers, Doug (Deb) Smith, Clear Lake, Tom Smith, Clear Lake, and Tim (Kathy) Smith, Las Vegas, Nev.; father and mother-in-law, Calvin and Geraldine Hansmeier, Crystal Lake; brother-in-law, Michael C. Hansmeier, Crystal Lake; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, father and infant son.

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
