Marna Herman

Marna “Peggy” Ruth (Neuberger) Herman, age 71, of Brownsville, Texas, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at her home after nearly 11 years of battling cancer.

A church service was held Sunday, May 19, 2013 at the United Methodist Church in Klemme, Iowa.

Marna was born to William and Emma Neuburger on June 21, 1941 in Cerro Gordo County near Klemme. As a child, she accepted Jesus as her Savior, graduated from Ventura High school in 1959 and united in marriage to Elwyn L. Herman on Aug. 28, 1960. In this union three children were born, Carol, Michael and Deborah.

Marna started working for the Brownsville Herald for one year, later becoming an Avon Sales representative, a substitute teacher and eventually a bookkeeper for her husband’s business. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Jaycees, Women’s Christian Group and enjoyed playing Bunco once a month with her friends.

She showed love and devotion to her husband and children by taking an active role throughout their lives. She attended various school activities, volunteered as a Boy Scout and Girl Scout leader and was always available to listen.  As a daughter, wife, mother, sister, aunt and grandmother, you could depend on her in times of need and support.  She was a person of generosity, integrity and strong-will.

Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Elwyn; daughter, Carol (Larry) Stephens of Lockhart, Texas; grandsons, Tyler and Colby Hearn both of Texas, and Matthew Herman (Michael’s son) of Texas; daughter, Deborah (Todd) Schippers and grandchildren, Rebecca, Trent, and Elaine of Monroe, Iowa; two brothers, William “Bill” (Madonna) Neuberger of Klemme, and David (Judy) Neuberger of Garner, Iowa; and four sisters, Marie Jurgens of Latimer, Iowa, Margaret Parrett of Cedar Falls, Iowa; Marilyn Cox of West Des Moines, Iowa; Marcia (Mike) Evans of Thompson, Iowa; and sister-in-law, Mary (Robert) Jackson of Virginia; and many nieces and nephews.
