Glenn Leon Shropshire, 94, of Clear Lake, died on Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at Concord Care Center, in Garner, Iowa.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 19, at Galilean Lutheran Church, 4454 255th St., Clear Lake, with Pastor Scot McCluskey officiating. Inurnment will be at Oakland Cemetery, in Forest City, Iowa.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday, May 18, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake.
Family suggests memorial contributions to Hospice of North Iowa.
Glenn was born Sept. 12, 1923, the son of Lewis Clarence and Berta (Leach) Shropshire, in Thompson. He married Maxine Moen on March 4, 1944, in Thompson. She preceded him in death on April 24, 2013.
Glenn grew up and attended school in Thompson before joining the United States Army and serving during World War II. For most of his career, he owned and operated Shropshire and Sons’ Masonry in Clear Lake.
Glenn was a member of Galilean Lutheran Church in Clear Lake and took great pride in the fact he assisted with its construction. He was a past member of the Clear Lake VFW Post 4868 and enjoyed wood working, gardening and yard work. He rarely came across an item he couldn’t fix.
Glenn is survived by four children, Larry (Gail) Shropshire, of Fertile, Judy (Ronald) McGrath, of Hiawatha, Iowa, Susan (Wayne) Foreman, of Sheffield, and Randy Shropshire, of Clear Lake; 10 grandchildren, Chad (Misty) Shropshire of Garner, Heather Burt, of Las Vegas, Nev., Vance Shropshire, of Mason City, Darcie McGrath, of Marion, Iowa, Sean McGrath, of Cedar Rapids, Troy (Rachel) Foreman, of Ames, Scott (Jeri) Foreman, of Hampton, Sarah (Charlie) Shirk, of Hampton, Ryan (Taryn) Shropshire, of Olathe, Ks. and Amanda Shropshire, of San Antonio, Texas; and many great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; three brothers, Lewis “Verne” and Forest Shropshire and Morris, in infancy; and a sister, Edna Meyers.
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
