Gerry was born on Dec. 19, 1952, in Mason City, Iowa, the son of Donald and LaVonne (Weiland) Wass.  He was raised in Clear Lake and graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1970.  On Sept. 1, 1973, Gerry was united in marriage to Debra Luick at the Clear Lake United Methodist Church.  During his life, Gerry worked at White Farm Equipment in Charles City, Iowa, from 1973 – 1980, at John Deere in Waterloo from 1980 – 1982, and then Martin Brothers Distributing in Cedar Falls, Iowa, from 1982 until November 2013, when he retired due to his health.

Gerry regularly attended church at Heartland Vineyard Church in Cedar Falls. His Christian faith and spreading the news about Jesus Christ was very important to him.  His enjoyments included NASCAR, sporting events, attending his grandchildren’s events, camping, boating, and tinkering in the garage; however, his biggest enjoyment in life was his family.

Gerry’s memory is honored by his wife, Deb, of Denver; three sons, Jared (Amy) Wass of Minneapolis, Minn., Ian (Jess) Wass of Waterloo, and Jamin (Amy) Wass of Denver; five grandchildren, Josiah, Sydnie, Owen, Maelyn, and Micah; a sister, Julie (Paul) Roberts of Iowa City, Iowa; his mother-in-law, Phyllis Luick of Mason City; and a sister-in-law, Lee Wass, of Goldsboro, N.C.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Roger Wass; and his father-in-law, Bud Luick.
