Christine “Chris” Mary Dean, 66, Clear Lake, died Monday, Nov. 11, 2013 at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
A funeral mass for Chris was held on Friday, Nov. 15, 2013, at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Clear Lake, with Rev. John Gossman officiating. Burial was in the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Christine “Chris” Mary Dean was born on June 1, 1947 in Culver City, Calif., the daughter of Edgar F. and Mary L. (Swanson) Smith. Chris graduated from St. Pius X Catholic High School in Downing, Calif., and graduated from Compton College of Nursing as a Registered Nurse in Compton, Calif. Chris was a nurse for 42 years, and was at the Providence Hospital in Anchorage, Alaska, retiring in 2005. She was united in marriage to C.A. “Deano” Dean, Jr., on Dec. 23, 2004 in Anchorage, Alaska. After retiring in 2005, they moved to Clear Lake where she continued in the nursing field at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa and retired in 2012.
Chris enjoyed traveling overseas and throughout the continental United States, gardening, golfing, and playing Majon game at the Mason City Country Club, but her great love and enjoyment were her grandchildren.
She was a member of the Mason City Country Club.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, C.A. “Deano” Dean of Clear Lake; two children, John (Julie) Papasavas of Anchorage, Alaska, and Lisa (Buddy) Overturf of Nampa, Idaho; her mother, Mary L. Smith of Las Vegas, Nev.; two grandchildren, Logan Overturf and Berlyn Overturf; two sisters, Connie Sechman of Woodstock, Ga., and Cathy Blevins of Las Vegas, Nev.; her loving dog, Max; as well as other extended family members and friends.
Chris was preceded in death by her father, Edgar F. Smith.
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
