Michael Winton was born Aug. 11, 1945, in Charles City, the son of Clifford F. and Doris G. (Dodge) Maulsby. Growing up in the area, he graduated from Charles City High School in 1964 and soon after began his honorable service in the United States Marines. On June 27, 1965 he married the love of his life, and high school sweetheart, Janice Jung, at the Central Methodist Church in Charles City. Soon after he was deployed to Vietnam. The couple lived in California for a short time before returning home to Iowa where Mike continued his education at NIACC.
Over the years Michael worked for Hydra-tile, where he covered the whole east coast, but eventually made it back to Iowa where he began his tenure with Massey Fergusen managing inventory. Before long he was promoted to Regional Sales Manager and in 1987 bought his own store in Mason City. His company soon grew buying the CASE dealerships as well. In 1993 he began Excell Too, later buying Clear Lake Boats where he served all of North Iowa until his retirement. The couple was blessed with three children, Scott, Grant and Tricia.
Mike had a way of owning the room the moment he walked in. There was an unspoken amount of respect that followed him no matter where he went. There wasn’t much that he wouldn’t do for others, whether it was calm words of wisdom, guidance, or lending a hand. He was a guide through troubled times and a solid support for those he loved. Mike’s dedication to his family was unwavering, working since the age of 12, he was determined to ensure their life-long success. Mike’s consistent love and support will be carried by his family forever.
Those left to carry on his story are his beloved wife of 57 years, Janice Maulsby, Clear Lake; sons, Scott (Geri) Maulsby and Grant (Christina) Maulsby; cherished grandchildren, Cody (Megan), Bailey, Ali, Kaylee, Quentin, and Urijah; great-grandchildren, Lucy and Lyla Maulsby; siblings, Tom (Jo Ann) Maulsby, Pat Stephenson, Tammy (Mark) Mowrer and Tommy Maulsby; sister-in-law, Joyce Jung; as well as extended family members, and countless best friends.
