Mathews earns medal in 100 hurdles

Five Ventura high school students got to wear the blue and gold one more time at the 2012 State Track and Field Championships held Thursday-Saturday, May 17-19, at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.  The five athletes represented VHS

well in their final appearance as Vikings.  The high school will be joining Garner-Hayfield next year in a whole grade sharing agreement.
    Those competing at the State competition were Joel Toppin, Emily Mathews, Courtney Younge, Sola Stephenson and Stacy Hackenmiller.
    “The Ventura athletes had a great final trip down to State track,” said girls track Coach Laura Huber.  “All of them ran their hardest and made me very proud to have been a Ventura track coach for the last five years.  I am excited to support and cheer them on next year at Garner.”
    Sophomore Emily Mathews competed in two individual events and one relay at the State Meet.  She placed ninth in the long jump with a leap of 16’3.25”.  She ran an impressive race in the 100 meter hurdles,- Read More Via e-Edition
