Clear Lake girls finish as runner-up in NCC Cross Country meet; boys finish in sixth place

    The Clear Lake girls cross country team recorded its highest placement since 1987 at the conference, finishing as NCC runner-up Tuesday, Oct. 11.  The meet was held at the Baptist Camp at Ventura.  The Clear Lake boys also ran well, finishing sixth overall among NCC competitors.
    “It was a beautiful night to have a meet and we thank all the volunteers and Baptist Camp staff for

directing and hosting the meet,” stated CLHS Coaches Lothar Meyer and Jerry Morris.

Girls race
    “We knew going in we could be competitive and challenge for one of the top spots,” said Coaches Meyer and Morris. 
    Trudy Peterson led the Lions girls with her fifth place finish in 16:05.  Sierra Greiman was eighth in 16:14 and Steph Faught was 12th in 16:22.  Also figuring in the scoring for the Lions was Katie Ouverson, 31st in 17:52, and Rebecca Baker, 43rd in 18:19.
    “Everyone ran very well,” said the coaches, adding that Amie Adams (47th, 18:34) and Kirsten Reineke (58th, 19:29) were also pushing the top five Lions.  “We’re hoping the District Meet will be our best one of the year.”
    Humoldt captured the NCC girls title with 78 points.  The Lions were runner-up with 99, narrowly edging third place Algona Garrigan which finished with 101.  The remainder of the field included: Algona (110), Webster City (111), Eagle Grove (141), St. Edmond (143), Iowa Falls-Alden (165), Clarion-Goldfield (180) and Hampton-Dumont (280).

Boys race
    The Clear Lake boys were sixth as a team in a talented field of NCC runners. 
    “We were hoping to finish at least in the top five, but we still ran very well with a strong field,” said the coaches.
    The Lions were a balanced team, led by Alex Blum and Jacob Baker, finishing 24th and 25th respectively in 18:25 and 18:26.  Jake Iverson was 27th in 18:28. 
    “Jake Iverson continues to improve as the season goes on.  He stayed with Alex and Jacob for the entire race, which was a good thing to see,” said the coaches.
    Clear Lake’s scoring also included a 37th place finish by Alex Enabnit in 19:18 and a 43rd recorded by Austin Anderson in 19:34.
