Lady Vikes top the Raiders in conference showdown

   It was a week of ups and downs for the Ventura volleyball team, as they easily handled Ruthven-Ayrshire, but had trouble in a triangular meet against Northwood-Kensett and West Hancock.

Ventura vs. R-A
    It was a quick night for the Ventura volleyball team on Tuesday, Sept. 13, when they downed Ruthven-Ayrshire in three games for a conference victory.  The scores were consistent at 25-16, 25-16 and 25-15.
    “We had some great moments,” said Coach Abby Roenfanz.  “We are excited about the win, but always strive to be better and improve on our weaknesses as both individual players and a collective team.”
    Four strong hitters led the team at the net.  Morgan Ames was 13/16 with six kills; Shelby Rayhons also had a good night, hitting 14/15 with five kills.  Emily Mathews was 10/17 hitting with four aces

and Brittani Watson was 10/11 with four kills.  Mathews also had three blocks and one assisted block.
    Sebelia Markle led the team at the service line, connecting on 10/13 serves with five aces.  Miranda Frederick was also a strong server, going 8/9 with three aces. Mathews was 9/12 with two aces, Rayhons was 7/8 with two aces, Courtney Younge was 5/6 with three aces and Hallie Hall was 7/8 with one ace.
    Younge led the team in assists with 16.
    The Lady Vikes moved their overall record to 3-7 and their conference record to 1-0.

Ventura vs. N-K
    Ventura hosted a triangular meet on Monday, Sept. 19.  In the first game, the Lady Vikes dropped the first match, 25-21, to Northwood-Kensett, won the second match, 26-24, but fell in the final match, 15-10.
    “We were not at our full potential against Northwood-Kensett,” said Coach Abby Roenfanz.  “Our communication needed to be much better than it was.”    
    At the net, Emily Mathews was 7/14 hitting with six kills and she had four assisted blocks and one solo block.  She was also 5/7 at the service line with one ace.
    Shelby Rayhons also had a good game.  At the service line she was 22/23 with four aces.  At the net she was 7/9 hitting with three kills.
    Courtney Younge was perfect at the service line, going 9/9 with one ace.  She also led the team in assists with 14 and she had five assisted blocks and one solo block.
