Lions capture a big win over the Indians, 43-21

    The most traditional thing about Friday night’s Clear Lake football game was that it ended in a win.
    The Lions set aside their usual power on the ground game plan and broke open a game which started close with passes and even a trick play to earn a win over a much-improved Forest City team, 43-21.  The victory was the 18th straight over the Indians and the 34th straight regular season win for the Lions.

    The Indians got on the board first, successfully driving the ball for a touchdown after Clear Lake turned it over on downs on the 38 yard line.   A 34-yard field goal by Clear Lake’s Logan Kracht made the score 7-3 through one quarter of play.
    But in the second period the Lions began to loosen up-- and so did their plays.
    Michael Keeran scored on a 44-yard pass from quarterback Ozzie Adams to put the Lion ahead, 10-7, midway through the second quarter.  With only about one-minute left in the half Tanner Tusha ran the rip sweep to perfection and scored from five yards out.  The kick was good, 17-7.  A fumble by Forest City quarterback Andrew Rosacker gave the ball back to the Lions with just :34 remaining.  Tanner Truesdell, who had recovered the fumble, took the ball into the endzone on the next play to make the score 24-7 at the break.
    And then the real fun began.
    A play drawn in the sand at halftime resulted in an immediate score when play resumed in the second half.  Keeran tossed a 59-yard halfback pass for a touchdown to Zac Bendickson on the opening play of the second half to extend the Lions’ lead to 31-7.
    Coach Fred Wieck said the coaches had seen the potential for the play to work and drew it up at halftime. The team hadn’t ever practiced it, and Keeran had never thrown a pass in varsity competition, but it worked perfectly.
    Keeran also ran the ball for a six-yard score late in the third quarter.
    Clear Lake’s final score came in the final quarter, as reserve quarterback Chase Lester connected on a 23 yard pass play to Aaron Boeshart. 
    On the night, the Lions collected 239 yards through the air.  Adams was 8/16 passing for 155.  Keeran and Lester were both 1/1 for 59 and 25 yards respectively.  Keeran caught two passes for 86 yards.  Other leaders were - Read More Via e-Edition
