Vikings looking for team speed to be key to success
The Ventura Vikings may be lacking in experience this year, but they are bringing in a talented bunch of underclassmen that will complement a senior class that is long on experience, but short on numbers.
The team will be lead by senior captains Joel Watson and Ryan Schmitz. Watson is a three-year starter for the Vikings who played tight end and linebacker last season. Last year he was the teams’ leading tackler. He will be moved this year to the running back position. Schmitz had a breakout season last year at quarterback and despite a broken leg at the end of the season, is back and ready to contribute. The pair will be joined by returning letterwinners Jace Byers and Zach Ryerson.
The team has 22 players on the roster, five seniors, five juniors, five sophomores and seven freshmen. The team will miss junior Thomas Treloar, who broke his wrist in pre-season practice.
