Council advances ordinance to prohibit feeding waterfowl

The Clear Lake City Council will consider the second reading of a proposed ordinance that would prohibit the feeding of waterfowl at or within 300-feet of any City owned and maintained recreation area when it meets on Monday, May 20.

The Council introduced the proposed ordinance at its May 6 meeting.

Nate Carney, president of the Board of Directors of the Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, was the only person who spoke to the proposal.  He said the Board endorsed the idea.

“(Feeding at) City Beach could potentially endanger water quality or have a negative effect on tourism and public health,” said Carney.

The proposed ordinance has also been reviewed and endorsed by the Association for the Preservation of Clear Lake  and the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board.
