Irene Hiscocks

 

Irene A. Hiscocks, 81, of Garner, Iowa, died Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at the Concord Care Center in Garner.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 13, 2013 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner with Fr. Dennis Miller officiating.  Burial was in the church cemetery.  Cataldo Funeral Home, Garner, was in charge of arrangements. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Boniface Catholic Church and may be sent in care of the family of Irene Hiscocks, 2340 210th St., Garner, Iowa,  50438.

Elaine Pitkin

 

Elaine G. Pitkin, 80, of Clear Lake, died Saturday, April 13, 2013 at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at the Rolling Acres Christian Reform Church, Mason City, with Rev. Jack Vanden Heavel and Rev. Nate DeVries officiating.  Burial was in Meservey Cemetery, Meservey, Iowa.  Family suggests memorials to Hospice of North Iowa.

Lois Trimble

 

Lois  Trimble, 89, Clear Lake, died Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.  

     A Funeral Mass was held  Saturday, April 13, 2013 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Clear Lake,  with Rev. John Gossman and Msgr. John Hemann co-celebrating.  Interment was held at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.  Memorials may be given to the Lois Trimble Memorial Fund.

Frankie Meyers

 

Frankie Dean “Bud” Meyers, 80, of Clear Lake, died Thursday, April 11, 2013 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, surrounded by his loving family.

Memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 20, 2013 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Clear Lake.  Family will greet friends one hour before the service.  Following the service, there will be a time of sharing memories and a celebration of Bud’s life at Holt Airport Hangar, Mason City Municipal Airport.  Family suggests memorials to Frankie Dean Meyers Memorial Fund.

Robert Mock

 

Robert W. “Bob” Mock, 78, Clear Lake, died Sunday, April 14, 2013 at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.  

Per Bob’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and a celebration of Bob’s life will be held 10:30 a.m.,  Saturday, April 20, 2013 at Zion Lutheran Church, 112 N. 4th Street, Clear Lake, with the Interim Pastor Kirk Wilke officiating.   Bob and his wife, Joann, will be laid to rest together at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, where full military funeral honors will be provided by the Clear Lake V.F.W. Post 4868.

Results of Earth Days 5K and 10K runs

 

One hundred sixty-nine runners took part in the annual Earth Days 5K and 10K runs in Clear Lake Saturday, April 13.  

Ryan Smith, 36, of Clear Lake, was the overall winner of the 5K in a 

Lions roll over A-P, 4-1

 

The Clear Lake boys soccer team got off to a fast start and went on to collect a 4-1 victory over Aplington-Parkersburg Monday night, April 15.

The Lions jumped to a quick lead, scoring the first goal just :27 seconds into the match.  Carson Farmer made an attack up the right side line to the corner.  Farmer crossed the ball to the center of the field, finding Karlen Lu for the early score.  

G-H/V girls and boys both win at B-K

 

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls and boys golf teams were finally able to hit the links after weather delays derailed the season a bit.  The indoor practice time didn’t seem to effect either team too much, as both the boys and girls captured titles at the Belmond Meet held on Monday, April 15.

The boys recorded a team score of 191, topping North Iowa who shot 194, Belmond-Klemme 196, and Newman-Catholic 209.

CL boys tennis team sweeps Webster City

 

The Clear Lake boy tennis team posted a clean sweep over Webster City Monday, April 8.

In singles play, number one player Sam Jones, number three Paul Raner and number four player Luke Schiller were all 10-0 winners.  Jerry Kockler recorded a 10-2 win in the number two singles match.  JJ Theobald was also a 10-2 winner at number five and Andrew Davis won 10-1 in the number six match.
