Ventura jazz band ends program’s run on a high note

Drum roll please…..
After nearly nine months of work, Ventura High School’s Jazz Band I took the stage in the Des Moines Civic Center Auditorium at the largest high school jazz competition in the county. Ventura has qualified for the Iowa Jazz Championships an amazing 15 times, but this year was something special. After all, this would be the last time the group would represent Ventura High School.

Noise ordinance considered
Clear Lake Police Chief Greg Peterson presented the Clear Lake City Council with a draft of a noise ordinance Monday night. The proposed ordinance addresses commercial, residential and industrial zones within the city and establishes acceptable decibel levels for specific times of the day.
In residential zones, permissible sound levels would be 60 decibels from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and 50 decibels from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m.
Commercial zones would have a limit of 65 decibels at all times. The limit would be 75 decibels at all times in industrial zones.

Re-design of salary schedule results 4.4% package increase
The Clear Lake Board of Education approved a tentative agreement with the Clear Lake Education Association for a master working agreement for the 2012-2014 school years Monday night. The CLEA membership had approved the agreement, which provides a 4.41 total package increase, prior to the board action.
The contract was reached after a redesign of the salary schedule aimed at attracting quality new teachers and recognizing those who pursue National Board Certification.
CLHS Principal Mathis resigns

Accepts superintendent position at Eldora-New Providence
Jay Mathis, principal at Clear Lake High School since 2000, has submitted his resignation to the School Board.
Mathis will become Superintendent for the Eldora-New Providence School District, effective July 1.
The Clear Lake Board of Education approved his resignation from the district at its Monday night meeting.
