  Design unveiled for 9/11 steel  A design for a monument at the new Clear Lake Fire Department featuring the piece of steel salvaged from the World Trade Center has been unveiled.  Firefighters who traveled to New York in May 2011 to bring back a piece of the steel shared their story with an audience at the Clear Lake Arts Center Saturday before revealing the finalized drawing for the memorial.  Fire Chief Doug Meyers said elements from a dozen ideas submitted for the steel were combined for the final design.  The monument will feature the steel atop a concrete pedestal wrapped in granite. Council split on request for development agreement

    On a 3-2 vote Monday night, the Clear Lake City Council has set a public hearing date for a proposed development agreement for the redevelopment of the former Fredriksen Welding shop located at 209 1st Ave. S.

Chuck Berry cancels Feb. 4 appearance at Surf

The Surf Ballroom & Museum has announced Chuck Berry will not be appearing as the headlining act for the 2012 Winter Dance Party.  Pat Boone has been secured to headline the event.  Chuck Berry was scheduled to appear on Saturday, Feb. 4, during the annual tribute.
