Thirty-five years after it went up as the first fast-food choice in Clear Lake, the McDonald’s retaurant at Highway 18 and Interstate 35 came down Tuesday morning.  A new, larger McDonald’s will be constructed on the site, with opening 

March madness!

Surprising storm drops foot of snow on area

About a foot of heavy snow fell on Clear Lake in a storm that arrived Sunday afternoon and persisted through the night.  

The Clear Lake Police Department reported no major accidents locally, but was kept busy helping motorists out of the snow.

Statewide re-population efforts are taking off

“If you build it, they will come.”  

That’s what they said about Iowa’s Field of Dreams.  But seven years after nesting poles were readied to attract ospreys, Clear Lake is still waiting to attract its first nesting pair.  

“The volunteer support and stewardship of Ospreys released at Clear Lake was phenomenal,” said Pat Schlarbaum of the Department of Natural Resources wildlife diversity program.  “The patience of your Osprey volunteers is being tested, but the future bodes well for nesting Ospreys at Clear Lake.”

What’s in a name?  

The Clear Lake Parks and Recreation Board of Directors is hoping creative Clear Lakers can provide an imaginative name for the city’s recreation area located on 12th Avenue South.

Board President Chyrl Bergvig said the area is beginning to take shape and the group is anxious to give it a name and heighten public awareness of the space.
