Small towns begin to form on the lake as ice fishing heats up

  A return to the deep freeze should send a lot of anglers to the ice this week. And they should be conscious of changing ice conditions.  Mild temperatures and rain have pounded away at what had been a pretty solid sheet of ice on lakes and backwaters. The deterioration is more apparent across the southern half of the state; with slow current winding through old stream beds.

   

Lake man pleads guilty to murder for hire

Sentencing is March 11

 

A Clear Lake man has pleaded guilty to one count of solicitation to commit murder. 

Alan Cannon was charged in March 2012 with two counts of solicitation to commit murder, one count of conspiracy to commit murder and one count of attempted murder.  Cannon was charged in November

It takes a lot to keep snowmobile enthusiasts down.  

Despite a lack of snow and brutally cold temperatures, huge crowds of participants and spectators enjoyed the 4th Annual Iowa Lemans Snowmobile Championship Jack Helgren Memorial Race held over the weekend at Clear Lake State Park.

   

Asbe will retire after 30 years with police force

After serving 30 years with the Clear Lake Police Department, Officer Ken Asbe will be retiring on Jan. 31. 

Asbe was hired by the Clear Lake Police Department in May 1983.  Prior to that, the Mason City High School graduate attended North Iowa Area Community College and took classes in law enforcement.  He was
