Wintering hawks take bird feeding to its highest level

The woman at the opposite end of the phone line was -- well, she was hysterical.  Absolutely in a rage, and that’s putting it mildly.  Whenever she’d stop to take a breath, I’d seize the opportunity to try working in a few words of my own.  Didn’t work.  Before I’d get half way through the first sentence, off she’d go again.  At first I was confused, but eventually I began to connect the dots.  As near as I could tell, here’s what had happened.

   

Truck, ice shack sink in lake

A pickup truck pulling an ice shack broke through the ice near Dodge’s Point on Clear Lake’s south shore late Friday afternoon and sank.

Christopher Cash, 40, was driving eastbound on Clear Lake at approximately 4:30 p.m. Friday when the 2004 Chevrolet pickup broke through the ice 

   

Power sledding ‘The Jack’ celebrates winter fun

The 5th annual Jack Helgren Memorial Snowmobile Race brought as many as 1,500 winter sports enthusiasts to Clear Lake on Saturday, honoring the sport the late Jack Helgren loved.  Helgren, an area businessman who was also an avid snowmobiler and a major promoter of the sport, died in 2009.  

   

Nelson joins race for Supervisor

Doug Nelson, rural Clear Lake farmer, has announced his intent to file papers for the District 2 Cerro Gordo County Supervisor seat as a Democrat.

He becomes the third Democrat to seek his party’s nomination in the election.
