GHV girls pick up some wins; top Clear Lake, 13-1

Coach Christina Weiser, coach of the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura softball team, felt like her team took positive strides this week, and is peaking at the right time. The Cardinals went 3-2 for the week moving their record to 7-14.

Newman 4, GHV 3
 The GHV softball team dropped a close one when Newman Catholic came to town on Monday, June 23. The Knights topped the Cardinals 4-3.
 GHV opened the game scoring runs in the first and second inning for a 2-0 lead. Newman scored one run in the fourth and three runs in the fifth, while holding the Cardinals to just one more run in the fifth for the final.


Clear Lake girls end week on a high note

The Clear Lake girls ended the week on a high note after picking up back-to-back wins. The team is now 3-19 heading into the home stretch of the season.

GHV baseball team moves record to 5-16

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura baseball team moved its record to 5-16 with one win and three losses last week.

Newman 13, GHV 1
 It was a tough night for the Cardinals when Newman Catholic pounded out 12 hits and 13 runs to shut down GHV 13-1. The Cards could only manage three hits off Newman pitcher Bryce Ball.
Payton James took the loss for the Cardinals. He pitched three innings and recorded two strike-outs, five walks, six hits and six runs. Josh Theobald and Cory Boeckman also saw time on the mound. Theobald walked two, gave up three hits and five runs. Boeckman struck out one, walked three, gave up three hits and two runs.
James, Boeckman and Holden Hutcheson were the only Cardinal players to connect on a hit. Hutcheson’s hit knocked in Jake Wolf in the second inning for GHV’s lone run.


Lions move up to #2 in the Class 3A rankings

The Clear Lake Lions moved up to number two in the Class 3A rankings last week. The Lions, now 16-2, have the best fielding percentage and second best team ERA of all the teams in Class 3A. The Lions had a light week, due to inclement weather, but are scheduled to play 10 games in 10 days leading up to a break for the July 4 holiday.

 The Lions were slated to host Iowa Falls-Alden Monday and Saint Ansgar Tuesday. Wednesday and Thursday they are at Eagle Grove and Lake Mills. They return home Friday, June 27, to play Bishop Garrigan then will wrap up the
