G-H/V girls drop a game in double OT

It was a tough week for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls, as they dropped two close contests, one in double overtime. 

North Union 39, G-H/V 37

You know it’s a closely matched game when it takes two overtimes to determine a winner.  Unfortunately, the Cardinals were the unlucky ones to come up on the bottom of a tightly balanced showdown with North Union on Tuesday, Nov. 27. 

North Union jumped to an early 10-5 first quarter lead, but G-H/V fought back in the second quarter and trailed by three going into halftime, 15-12.

It may not have been a pretty victory for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls basketball team, but the game did end with a win for the Cardinals over West Fork, 48-46.

“This group is a smart hardworking bunch of girls, so I have no doubt we will make great strides in the weeks to come,” said Head Coach Matt Erpelding.  “When you come out of a game like last night with a ‘W’ you have to feel good, but at the same time we must realize that you can’t repeat that type of performance on a nightly basis and expect to have a successful season.”


Be True To Your School Night planned

The Mohawk Hockey team will host Be True To Your School Night on Saturday, Dec. 1, when the Mohawks take on the Des Moines Oakleafs.  The JV team will take the ice at 5:30 followed by the varsity team at 7:30 p.m.  Clear Lake players on the team will be handing

Despite a lopsided score, Garner-Hayfield/Ventura Head Girls Basketball Coach Matt Erpelding said he liked what he saw from his team on Friday, Nov. 16, when the Cardinals faced Mason City in an Iowa Hall of Pride Challenge.
