It was a week of ups and downs for the Ventura volleyball team, as they easily handled Ruthven-Ayrshire, but had trouble in a triangular meet against Northwood-Kensett and West Hancock.

It was a quick night for the Ventura volleyball team on Tuesday, Sept. 13, when they downed Ruthven-Ayrshire in three games for a conference victory. The scores were consistent at 25-16, 25-16 and 25-15.
“We had some great moments,” said Coach Abby Roenfanz. “We are excited about the win, but always strive to be better and improve on our weaknesses as both individual players and a collective team.”
Four strong hitters led the team at the net. Morgan Ames was 13/16 with six kills; Shelby Rayhons also had a good night, hitting 14/15 with five kills. Emily Mathews was 10/17 hitting with four aces
Rough week for the Clear Lake volleyball team

It was a rough week for the Clear Lake volleyball team, as North Central Conference foes Humboldt and Hampton-Dumont swept the Lions, then North Iowa teams battled at the Forest City Tournament.
Humboldt 3, CL 0
Humboldt came to town Tuesday, Sept. 13, and swept the Lions, 3-0. The Wildcats posted scores of 25-13, 25-14, 25-19.
“Humboldt came over to Clear Lake with a lot of good athletes and height. They were well coached, too,” said Clear Lake Coach Scott Swenson.
Lions tally up 42 points in victory over Algona

Clear Lake’s new scoreboard got quite a workout Friday, as the Lions scored six touchdowns in a 42-20 victory over Algona. The win kept the state’s longest regular season win streak going at 36 for Clear Lake and propelled the Lions to the number one ranking among Class 3A teams in the Associated Press poll announced Monday. Another District 3 team, Webster City, is currently ranked second.
Friday night the Lions broke open a game tied at 7-7 after the one quarter by scoring three TDs in the second quarter. They added scores in each of the remaining periods. Five different Lions provided the scoring and Matt Bieber had two touchdowns.
X-C team fairs well at home meet

Clear Lake hosted its cross country invitational Thursday, Sept. 15, at the Baptist Camp at Ventura. Each Lion team had a strong outing, resulting in a third place finish overall for the varsity boys team; the Clear Lake girls were fourth overall.
Coaches Lothar Meyer and Jerry Morris extended their thanks to the Baptist Camp and the people that work there for all their hard work in helping to get the grounds ready and running the meet. “It is really appreciated that they let us use the facility and help us get it ready.
