Lions keep rolling with five more wins

    Clear Lake baseball rolled through the competition this week, recording five quality wins.  The Lions, ranked seventh in Class 3A, are now 7-2 overall.  Tonight (Wednesday, June 6), the Lions will play a big conference game at home against St. Ed’s,  the defending North Central Conference champions, starting at 7:30 p.m.

    The Lions, who have been building a successful program in recent years, posted a win over a school with a rich baseball tradition on Tuesday, May 29.  Clear Lake was an 8-6 winner over North Union (formerly called North Sentral Kossuth).

Meg Monson places third individually

The Clear Lake girls golf team claimed its second Class 3A State Golf title in three years Wednesday at the Otter Creek Golf Course in Ankeny, Iowa.  The Lions topped runner-up Charles City by four strokes, 376-380.
    “It was a great season,” said Head Coach Fred Wieck.  “Expectations were high-- and sometimes that’s tough.”

   

Clear Lake ends record-setting soccer season

    Number six ranked (1A) Nevada ended Clear Lake’s record-setting soccer season Friday.  Nevada was a 1-0 winner in the Regional semi-final played Friday at Nevada. The Lions concluded the 2012 season with a 9-5 record-- the most wins in the program’s history.

    One goal scored late in the first half was enough for Nevada, Class 1A’s sixth rated team, to defeat Clear Lake in the Regional semifinals.

   

Trapshooting team wins State title

    The Mason City Red trapshooting team, which included Mike Asbe from Clear Lake, won the Iowa High School State Trap Shoot Saturday in Cedar Falls.  The event was hosted by the Iowa State Trapshooting Association.
    A total of 903 high school students competed in the event, which was the culmination of the trapshooting season for high school teams. 
    The Mason City Red team recorded a score of 479/500 on Saturday to top the Ankeny Hawks (468), Solon Spartans (460), New Hampton (458), North Scott (456) and Charles City (456).
