Lions drop first round of Regional competition to Webster City

The volleyball season came to a close Monday night for the Clear Lake girls. For the second time in less than a week Webster City edged the Lions. Monday’s Lynx victory came in the opening round of Regionals.
Webster City earned a 3-1 win by scores of 25-18, 26-24, 22-25, 25-21 on their home court.
“The girls came out with more determination tonight, not wanting this to be their last match of their senior careers,” said Clear Lake Coach Scott Swenson. On Thursday the Lynx swept the Lions 3-0.
Lions assured a play-off berth with win over IF-A

A solid second half lifted the Clear Lake Lions to an important Class 3A, District 3 victory over Iowa Falls-Alden Friday night. The 19-7 win assured the Lions (4-1, 6-2) of a play-off berth. The Cadets, who are also likely play-off bound, slipped to 3-2 in the District and 4-4 overall. The win left the Lions tied for the District lead with Humboldt with one game remaining in the regular season. Clear Lake will host Algona, while the Wildcats will take on winless Charles City. Cardinals roll over Midgets in 41-20 victory

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura football team stretched their win streak to four, as they rolled over Estherville-Lincoln Central, 41-20, in a District showdown Friday night on the road.
“We came out a little flat and Estherville made us pay for it early,” said Coach Scott VanDusseldorp.
The Midgets found the endzone first to take a 7-0 lead. Keith Schwickerath scored on an eight yard run for the Cardinals, but the PAT failed for a 7-6 score. E-LC scored again on a 36-yard run, 14-6. Alex Van Gerpen scored for G-H/V in the final minutes of the first quarter and Braden Meints connected on the PAT for a 14-12 score.
Cardinals sweep Rockford in final regular season match

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura volleyball team ended their regular season with a sweep over Rockford on Tuesday, Oct. 9.
The Cardinals got off to a quick start, taking an 8-2 lead in the first match. Behind the strong serving of Miranda Frederick, they stretched the lead to 19-6. G-H/V went on to win the set, 25-14.
