Lions take care of business

It wasn’t always pretty, but Coach Fred Wieck said his team took care of business and did what it had to do to earn home field advantage in tonight’s first round of the State Playoffs.  The Lions topped Algona 27-7 Friday night to end the regular season with a 7-2 overall record, 5-2 in Class 3A District 3.

For a team that wasn’t even picked to be in the top four of their district at the beginning of the season, the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura football team is now making other teams take notice.  On the line in Friday night’s matchup with Forest City (7-2), was second place in Class 2A, District 2 and a home game advantage in the first round of playoffs.  The Cardinals rose to the challenge and topped the Indians, 7-0.

Clear Lake and Garner-Hayfield/Ventura/West Hancock cross country runners are headed to the State Meet Saturday at Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge.

Junior Antonio DiMarco, from Clear Lake, and sophomore Joel Toppin from G-H/V/WH qualified as individuals in the Class 3A boys race held on Monday at Spencer.  To qualify as individuals, runners need to place in the top 10.  Toppin placed seventh in the race with a time of 17:10, while DiMarco was 10th in

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura volleyball team dropped its first Class 3A Region 1 contest on Monday night, Oct. 22.  Forest City swept the Cardinals, 3-0, with scores of 28-26, 25-12 and 31-29.
