Lions move record to 5-2

The Clear Lake boys played a flurry of games in their final week before the holiday break.  The Lions picked up three wins in four outings, improving to 5-2.  The team is now off until Jan. 9, when they travel to Humboldt.  The Lions and Wildcats are both 4-0 in the North Central Conference.s



CL 73, IF-A 48

The Lions pushed their win streak to four Tuesday night with a 73-48 victory over Iowa Falls-Alden.

“We were able to jump out to a quick start and pressure them into some mistakes, forcing 27 turnovers,” said Coach Jeremy Ainley.  “We were able to play a lot of guys and continue to build depth on our bench.”

Three players finished in double figures for the visiting Lions.  Matt Stephany led the way with 14 points, followed by Parker Truesdell with 12 and Devin Uhlenhopp with 11.  

There was plenty of balance, with Brock Adams and Tanner Storbeck each scoring eight, and Tamarik Lee and Thomas Storbeck each with six.  Jacob Hogan put in four points.  Alex VanderPloeg finished with three points and Justin Sholly had one.

VanderPloeg was the team leader in rebounds with seven.  

The Lions had 15 steals in the game, paced by Uhlenhopp, Lee and Stephany each with three.

“Alex VanderPloeg had a great game off the bench and Devin Uhlenhopp continues to get better and more well rounded,” added the coach.


Clear Lake wrestlers go 2-0 in NCC duals

The Clear Lake wrestling team picked up two big wins Thursday night, Dec. 18, against Hampton and Algona.  The victories put the Lions in second place in North Central Conference at 3-1, one meet behind second rated Clarion. 


Cardinals pick up two more wins

It was a good week for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys, as they picked up two big wins moving their record to 4-2 in the North Iowa Conference and 5-2 overall.


GHV 76, Central Springs 51

The GHV boys picked up a 25-point victory over Central Springs on the road Friday, Dec. 19.  

The Cardinals took control of the game early, garnering a 13-3 lead.  Sam Cataldo sunk a two-pointer to end the first quarter with a 19-7 lead.

GHV went on a six-point run in the second quarter to widen the gap, 32-16.  The Cardinals took a 39-23 lead into the break.

“The guys did a good job finding our bigs on the block, and our bigs converted,” said Coach Joe Albertson.


GHV girls drop first game of the season

After adding another win to their impressive record, the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls hit a buzz saw when they encountered Bishop Garrigan and dropped their first game of the season.  The loss moved the Cardinal’s record to 6-1, 7-1.
