The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls soccer team opened the 2014 season strong on Monday, April 7, by shutting out CAL/Hampton-Dumont/Belmond-Klemme 10-0.

“Anytime you score 10 goals and only allow one shot on goal, it is a good day,” said Coach Josh Banse.  “We played very well on both sides of the field.”

Bri Bier got the game rolling with two consecutive goals.  Riannan Kadrlik led the team with three goals.  Adding one goal apiece was Shelby Rayons, Maddie Tusha, Tiara Van Gerpen and Mallory Keech.  Mackenzie Haag recorded one penalty kick.

GHV vs. C-G
Despite the weather, which was breezy and very cold, and the fact that the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls golf team has not been on a course yet this season, Monday night’s meet with Clarion-Goldfield could have been worse.  As it was, C-G topped GHV by only four strokes, 208-212, in the first meet of the season.
“I didn’t have real high expectations entering this meet, since the girls had not played a hole this season,” said Coach Todd Greiman.  “Overall, a team score of 212 with very limited practice time and virtually no time on a green is not bad at all.”

The Clear Lake girls soccer team opened the season with a 1-0 win over Aplington-Parkersburg Monday night, April 7.

“It was a total team effort,” said new Head Coach Nick DiMarco.  “I was particularly impressed on how the upper classmen played well together and helped the newer members of our team get acclimated to a game situation.”
