The Clear Lake boys remain the only undefeated team in Class 3A after topping Iowa Falls-Alden, 81-55.  The win kept the Lions (11-0, 10-0) as number two in the rankings, as Dubuque Wahlert (10-1) replaced Harlan as the top team.  Harlan (11-1) dropped from the unbeaten ranks with a

They sputtered, ever so briefly, but when they got rolling there was no stopping the Clear Lake girls.  They flattened Iowa Falls-Alden, 72-14, in a North Central Conference game played Friday.  The Lions, rated number three in Class 3A, improved to 10-1 overall and 9-0 in the NCC.

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls moved their record to 6-1, 8-3 with two big wins over Newman Catholic and Forest City.

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls basketball team came out on fire and scorched the Newman Catholic girls (0-7, 0-11) in a 63-29 romp on Friday, Jan. 17, at home.

The Cardinals may have come out a bit slow in the first quarter, taking a 13-7 lead, but they rolled in the second quarter, collecting 25 points, while holding the Knights to only four.  GHV had a commanding 38-11 lead by halftime.  The large lead allowed the coach to play a variety of girls, with 11 girls seeing 10 or more minutes of play and contributing to the 63-29 


A week of ups and downs for the Cardinals

It was a win and a loss for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys basketball team last week.  The Cardinals topped Newman, but fell to a tough Forest City team.

GHV 65, Newman 54

The Newman Catholic boys basketball team didn’t have an answer to Garner-Hayfield/Ventura’s one-two punch of Braden Meints and Joel Toppin. The dynamic duo combined for 37 points and 17 rebounds to lead the Cardinals to a 65-54 victory over the Knights at home on Friday, Jan. 17.
