Lady Vikes get victory over HLP in busy week

Ventura volleyball fans had the opportunity to cheer their team on at three home matches last week. The Lady Vikes bounced back from a Monday night loss to Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock to post a win over Harris Lake Park on Tuesday. The week ended with a hard-fought match with Garner-Hayfield.
This is the final week of the regular season for Ventura (7-13, 4-2). Thursday, Oct 13, the Lady Vikes are at Newman.
RRMR 3, Ventura 0
RRMR escaped from Ventura with a 3-0 win Oct. 4. Scores were 25-21, 25-21, 25-20.
The team was led by Sebelia Markle, who was 10/10 serving with four aces.
Emily Mathews was 17/21 hitting with nine kills. She was also 9/9 serving and made seven digs, had one solo block and one assisted block.
Morgan Ames was 9/12 hitting with three kills and Miranda Frederick was 6/7 serving and had eight digs. Hallie Hall was 7/8 serving with nine digs. Shelby Rayhons was 7/13 hitting with five kills and was 7/9 serving with an ace. Brittani Watson was 6/8 hitting with two kills. Courtney Younge was 10/12 serving with four digs. She also had a team-high 18 assists.
Ventura 3, HLP 1
Ventura’s match with Harris Lake Park couldn’t have been much closer. The Lady Vikes squeaked out a 25-23 win in the first game, then saw Harris Lake Park return the favor by the same score in the second match. Ventura didn’t let the comeback deter their effort; they won the next two games by scores of 25-23 and 25-21.
“I am very proud of the girls for tonight. They came back from losing the 2nd set and fought hard,” said Coach Abby Roenfanz.
Emily Mathews provided a lot of offense, going 28/32 hitting with 20 kills. She was 9/9 serving with four aces, had 14 digs and seven solo assists. Her effort was complimented by Shelby Rayhons’ 15/18 hitting with six kills. Rayhons was 9/12 serving with three aces. She also had 13 digs and one solo assist.
