Lions hitting on all cylinders

The Clear Lake Lions seem to be hitting on all cylinders -- and that’s important heading into arguably one of the biggest regular season games ever to be played at Lions Field.
The Lions pummeled Ballard 54-0 Friday night, setting up a meeting between the number one ranked Lions and number two rated Webster City Lynx this week.  Both Class 3A District 3 teams are 6-0.  The Lions, who have outscored their opponents 110-6 in the last two games, bring a 38 game regular season and 30 game district win streaks to the contest.

“It’s a big game,” Clear Lake coach Fred Wieck said. “It should be a fun game.”
Wieck noted both teams are very likely to go into the playoffs as the top two teams from the district, however, he prefers to advance into the post-season as the District champion in order to play another district’s runner-up instead of champion.
The Lions made very few mistakes in the win over Ballard on the road.
They scored within the first two minutes after recovering a Ballard fumble on its second play from scrimmage. Just three plays later, Michael Keeran took the ball into the end zone from four-yards out.  Two more scores followed in the first quarter.  Tyler Sherman reeled in a 30-yard touchdown pass from Ozzie Adams and Jake Kockler reached pay dirt after he was wide open for a 52-yard Adams pass.
The Lions put 20 more points on the board in the second quarter.  Adams scored on a seven yard run and fullback Cody Maulsby scored from three yards out twice in the period.  Logan Kracht connected on the PAT five of six times in the first half, making the score 41-0 at the break.
Adams put the cap on his outstanding night with a 17-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter to Keeran.  On the night, Adams was 8/10 passing for 207 yards.  He spread the wealth among five players, led by Kockler’s two catches for 69 yards.  Keeran caught three passes for 45-yards.  Hunter Bruns caught one pass for 34 and Tyler Sherman had one for 30.  Maulsby caught two passes for 29-yards.
Clear Lake’s final score was made by Chase Lester, filling in for Adams in the final quarter. He rambled 44 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Matt Bieber rushed 57 yards for the Lions on six carries, while Adams finished with 33 on 11 carries and Maulsby had 18 on five totes.  Aaron Boeshart ran three times for seven yards and Keeran had five carries for five yards.
