Machine shed fire causes 90K loss

A late night fire in a machine shed caused more than $90,000 damage at a rural Clear Lake farm.

At 10:57 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, Clear Lake firefighters were called to 19674 Hickory Avenue.  Upon arrival by two pumpers, a tanker, 18

firefighters, and the Cerro Gordo Sheriff’s Department, the building was fully involved with a large amount of fire showing.

According to Public Information Officer Billy Krefft, a quick knock down by the CLFD protected the adjacent exposures of numerous grain bins.

Two vehicles, mopeds, bicycles, tools and other equipment inside the building were a total loss. Early damage estimates could reach over $90,000.

The residents of the property are Kim Wendel and Ron Decker.

There were no injuries.  Krefft said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
