GHV/WH team posts good individual times at Eagle Grove Cross Country Meet

 

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura/West Hancock cross country team posted some good individual times when they competed at Eagle Grove on Tuesday, Oct. 8.

The boys team placed third out of the eight teams competing.  Algona won the meet with 59 points, followed by Gilbert with 60 and GHV-WH finished with 88 points.  Clear Lake was fourth with 103 points.  

Joel Toppin and Chase Smith led the team with fourth and fifth place finishes.  Toppin completed the race in 16:31 and Smith was close behind with a time of 16:33.

Also running varsity was Derek Brown, 23rd, 18:15; A.J. Arnold, 24th, 18:20; Anthony Siegrist, 32nd, 18:43; Jonny O’Connor, 33rd, 18:48; and Derek Lonneman, 37th, 19:07.

The girls team placed fifth in the nine team competition.

The top four runners for the Cardinals was Maria Gonzalez, 13th, with a time of 16:37; Tiara Van Gerpen was 17th, 17:15; Maddie Tusha was 30th, 17:39 and Bri Bier was 37th with a time of 17:59.  Other varsity runners included Kelly Anderson, 39th, 18:17; Maribel Zamago, 46th, 18:50 and Taylor Glawe, 48th, 18:51.

“I thought we ran well, but we need to continue to improve for the post season,” said Coach Jeff Short.
