Wava June Wickwire

Wava June Wickwire, 98, of Rockwell, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 4, 2025, at the Rockwell Community Nursing Facility. She joined her husband, Gordon, 10 days after his passing. They are holding hands again in Heaven.

Wava June Vosburgh was born on July 27, 1926, in Hanford, Iowa, the daughter of Dell and Ila (Angell) Vosburgh. She graduated from Rockwell High School.

On October 1, 1946, she was united in marriage to Gordon Wickwire. Together, they were blessed with two daughters, Beverly and Nancy. At the time of her death, they were married 78 years. She was an active member in the Rockwell United Methodist Church for 65 years. She especially enjoyed making table favors and bibs with her Ladies Circle for the Rockwell nursing Home. Her first love was making quilts with her mother and her sister.

June and Gordon owned and operated the Corner Market Grocery Store in Rockwell for many years. She was a book keeper for Emery Fertilizer Plant until her retirement. June and Gordon loved to travel together, play cards and spend time with their family.

Wava’s memory will be lovingly cherished by her daughters, Beverly Peters and Nancy Beenken, both of Rockwell; her four grandchildren: Monica (John) McLaughlin, Chad Beenken, Carrie Demory, and Tina (Joe) Mathahs; nine great-grandchildren; and eleven great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who remember her with deep affection.

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Gordon; her parents; two sisters; one brother; her son-in-law, Darwin Peters; grandson-in-law, Mike Demory; one sister-in-law; and four brothers-in-law.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Rockwell Community Nursing Facility for their compassionate care. Special appreciation is also given to Wendy Johannessen for her visits and prayers.

There will be a graveside service held privately for Wava June.
