Trapshooting team wins State title

    The Mason City Red trapshooting team, which included Mike Asbe from Clear Lake, won the Iowa High School State Trap Shoot Saturday in Cedar Falls.  The event was hosted by the Iowa State Trapshooting Association.
    A total of 903 high school students competed in the event, which was the culmination of the trapshooting season for high school teams. 
    The Mason City Red team recorded a score of 479/500 on Saturday to top the Ankeny Hawks (468), Solon Spartans (460), New Hampton (458), North Scott (456) and Charles City (456).

     Asbe led the Mason City team with a score of 98, good for third place.  Brian Wood and Henry Timmer each scored 96, Sam Christianson had 95 and Zach Lensing had 94.
    Following the competition, All-State honors were also announced.  All-State status was based on the best four scores (200 targets) recorded during the regular season combined with the State meet score, with  no more than two league scores allowed from one site.     
    The Mason City Red team was also second in All-State and Asbe finished fifth.
