New building proposed at Lions Field

    It’s very much still in the planning stages, but Clear Lake School Board members were shown a prelimary drawing of what a new building at Lion’s Field may look like at their board meeting on Monday night.
    Ken Wind of Bergland + Cram Architects presented a proposal of a possible building option that would

incorporate concessions, restrooms and locker room facilities for home and visiting guests.  Wind stated that the proposed project would be 5,400 square feet.  The estimated cost of the project is $600,000.
    Plans for the building are to replace the functions of two existing structures at Lion’s Field that are in bad shape.  Flooring in the buildings has been damaged due to freezing and thawing.  Sewer and water lines have also been broken.  At least one of the former buildings would still be used for storage.
    Board members were concerned about the cost of the project and wondered whether or not federal grant money might be used for the project if a storm shelter were incorporated.  Board members agreed that although Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL) funds could be used for some of the expense, fund raising efforts would also be needed to offset the cost.
    “This project is in the very preliminary stages, but something definitely needs to be done with the buildings,” said Deb Betz, Clear Lake School Board president.  “I am quite concerned with the estimated cost, so I feel we need to be very cautious about how we proceed with this project.”
    No timeline for construction of the project was discussed.
    In other business Monday night, the board received a report from Mike Danvurg of Yaggy Colby Associates about the drainage problems at the middle school.
