Nancy Jane Merrick

Nancy Jane Merrick, 87, died Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at the Good Shepherd Healthcare Center, Mason City.

A memorial mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 19, at the St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1001 9th Ave. South, Clear Lake, with Rev. Josh Link officiating. Inurnment will take place at the Clear Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Nancy Jane was born March 26, 1937, in Centerville, the daughter of Robert and Helen. Nancy graduated from Centerville High School.  

On November 3, 1956, Nancy married her high school sweetheart Donald Merrick, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Centerville; to this union they were blessed with four sons. She was grateful to be able to be a homemaker until the boys were older. Later, Nancy began working as a sales associate for Sears in the Mason City and Ames locations. After 30 years of service to retail sales she retired.

Nancy enjoyed flower gardening, cooking, boating, fishing and spending time with her family. Her most treasured holiday was Christmas, decorating, baking and being surrounded by her family. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Clear Lake.

Nancy is survived by her loving husband of 67 years Donald Merrick; sons, Michael Merrick, Jim Merrick, Craig (Susan) Merrick, and John (Marla) Merrick; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; her sister, Betty Morgan; niece, Denise Miller; along with other relatives and friends.

Nancy is preceded in death by her parents; daughter-in-law, Dawn Merrick; brother and sister-in-law Dan (Mona) Merrick.
